Once found on U.S. Navy destroyers and submarines, the Emeco 1006 chair, pronounced "ten-oh-six," is the product of a collaboration between the Electric Machinery and Equipment Company (Emeco) and the Aluminium Company of America (Alcoa) in 1944 to produce a seaworthy chair -- corrosion resistant, maintenance free, and comprised of one continuous piece of aluminium without seams.

The timeless chair spans generations and cultures and has been embraced as the quintessential retro-chic all-purpose chair.

The name Emeco is only used to describe the characteristics of the goods made to the original design, and not as a trade mark.
